Cake Cooker Refurbishment
For this complex refurbishment project, we were brought in during a critical and strictly-enforced 3-week outage, where we were commissioned to refurbish a key piece of process equipment—our client’s large cake cooker. With a tight schedule and a range of work to complete, strong coordination and hands-on expertise were essential throughout.
Our dynamic team acted fast to deliver both planned and additional works, collaborating closely with other contractors to ensure all work was completed safely and on time.
For this project, we:
- Removed the failed sweep arm
- Plated and repaired the defective side walls
- Fabricated and installed a new sweep arm
- Replaced the failed bottom bush and gland packing as this was causing a leak
- Cleaned and reassembled all components with new packing and bolts
We were also tasked with additional works during the outage, including:
- Replacement of damaged flank plates in the furnace
- Replacement of 10 damaged expansion joints
- Removal and replacement of 2 bottom cyclone cones
- Shortening of the discharge conveyor and installation of a new chain and wear plates in a worn section
- Removal of the old motor and installation of a new motor in position
While access was initially challenging, our team worked closely with other contractors on site to coordinate resources and ensure all tasks were completed smoothly. Our ability to respond quickly to additional work without impacting the overall schedule was key to the successful delivery of the project.
